The myth of Middle East peace 'in a year'

Middle East peace 'in a year' | World news | The Guardian

This isn't a long post, just a brief tirade at the idiocy behind the ineffectual peace talks going on between Israel and Mahmoud Abbas.  I say this is idiocy for several reasons.
First, Abbas is the West's selection to represent all the Palestinians, which is just dumb.  There are so many different Palestinian factions, Abbas can't possibly speak for them all.  Besides, Abbas doesn't come to these talks in any position of power.  The Israeli state is far more powerful than this sole individual who has no country to even represent but some vague notion of what country he might represent if the West hadn't stolen Palestinian lands to gift to the Jews to make up for the holocaust.

Second, these talks are rigged in Israel's favor.  The US isn't an honest peace broker here as the American federal government is not only a staunch supporter of all things Israeli, but filled with fundamentalist Christians who base US foreign policy on Biblical myths, which is insane.  The US isn't going to demand one thing from the Israelis and even if they did, Israel's political influence and bribes in the form of lobbying or campaign donations to certain American politicians would take care of that.  Israel is trying to save face here in front of the entire world but really have nothing at stake in these talks.  We Americans are the bought and sold Israeli lap dogs posing as honest arbitrators of peace.

Third, what are the Israelis really going to give up or compromise in these talks?  Ben Nutenyahu (spelling intentional as the guy is a sandwich shy of a picnic) has already declared Israel will not stop expanding Jewish settlements, it will not give up any land to the Palestinians, it won't stop building it's West Bank barrier wall.  So what's the point?
This whole thing is a sham so that Israel and her bitch, the United States, can say to the whole world, "Hey, well at least we tried to have peace.  You guys all saw that right?"
