Snyder to get Emergency Manager powers this week | Michigan Messenger

So I just got off the phone with a nice young lady at Gov. Rick Snyder's (R-MI) office. I had to call after I spotted this article and give my 2 cents.

Our governor, like most Republican governors around the US, has followed what can only be described as the Koch model for destroying America's middle class. Snyder has done away with unemployment benefits for those out of work since the recession began, slashed funding to medicaid and social services and gets his Emergency Manager powers this week which will allow him through his agents to nullify existing state contracts with teachers, police and firefighters. He has done this while giving away billions in tax incentives to big business and demolishing environmental protections. This, he thinks, will save Michigan. The nice lady on the phone said this would bring in the jobs and keep people in Michigan.

My point (which I was assured would make it to the governor though I'm a it doubtful he will get it or, if he does, will give a shit) was that what good are tax breaks for the wealthy when people are broke now? If you take away someone's unemployment checks and they lose their homes or have to accept substandard wages, they aren't going to want to stay in Michigan nor will they have any money but to pay bills and rents or mortgages and what drives the economy? Not rich people, but the lower classes who pump money into it. If the lower classes can't don't have money to spend, your economy is doomed anyway, a concept rich folk and corporations fail to grasp because they are all behaving like Christian Bale in American Psycho.

Anyway, yesterday in the Detroit Free Press there was an article that 5,466 teachers are going to be laid off as Robert Bobb, the governors emergency manager, promises to terminate collective bargaining. Great! Now Michigan's children will be dumber than George W. Bush and won't be able to get skilled jobs anyway, assuring them a life of mediocrity and low wages.

Protests have been planned and I can only hope we Michiganders give the Wisconsinites a run for their money in our dedication to fight against this tyranny because as bad as it is in Michigan, Rick Snyder is on a path to make it even worse.
