Following up my last post: So I called Rep. Bachmann's Washington office

So I just got off the phone with Michelle Bachmann's office in Washington.  I asked the lady who answered if she knew if Rep. Bachmann planned on saying something to her followers about threatening to rape or kill a 16 year old girl.  The lady said she didn't know anything about it and asked where I had gotten this from.  I told her Think Progress and other news sites on the internet.  The lady then went on to try to say that Rep. Bachmann isn't responsible for what her supporters say and that the Congresswoman wouldn't approve of such things but that it didn't reflect on Bachmann.  I said I know that it doesn't reflect on Bachmann but if I had a bunch of people following or supporting me who were acting inappropriately that I would feel some obligation to speak out and say something to them about it.  I was thanked for my opinion and assured that my concerns would be passed on (though I'm a bit cynical about that being the case).

One hopes that Rep. Bachmann takes some personal responsibility here (as Republicans are always preaching) and realize that in her position it doesn't matter if she supports what her followers are doing or not, she has a personal obligation as a human being, an elected official to Congress and an American to speak out against such bullshit and remind her followers that such criminal activities will be prosecuted.  Just as you or I would if we had insane, rabid followers.
